Mr. Md. Abdul Aziz Khan has joined the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission in February 2017 as Member. In the late 70’s Mr. Khan did his M.Sc in Physics from Dhaka University, then PGD and M.Sc in Exploration Geophysics from the Netherlands. He also did MBA. He attended many training programs and seminars at home and abroad.
He has thirty-seven years of working experience in energy sector including four years in private sector. He started his career in Petrobangla as a Geophysicist and held various positions where he developed expertise in oil and gas exploration and development, Production Sharing Contracts (PSC), negotiating PSCs and gas purchase and sales agreement with the IOCs and gas supply agreements with IPPs. He was responsible for monitoring of gas production, transmission and distribution, forecasting short-, mid- and long-term energy demands, and infrastructure development.
He played a significant role in National Energy Policy 1995, National Gas Pricing Policy 1996, and BERC Act 2003, Bangladesh Gas Act 2010. He was a dynamic leader and top-ranking manager in Bangladesh’s gas sector. He served as Managing Director of Barapukuria Coal Mine, Bangladesh Gas Fields and Titas Gas T&D Co. Ltd and made relentless efforts for the development of the companies. He served as Director of Board of Directors of five Petrobangla companies. He worked for Hameem Group, the largest RMG exporting company where he was responsible for utilities, cogeneration and development of a 100 MW solar project for a Chinese-Bangladeshi consortium.
Mr. Khan has published fourteen scientific papers in national and international Journals including ‘Gas Demand Forecast for Bangladesh (2001- 2050)’. He also served for ADB as consultant and coauthored a book titled "Bangladesh Gas Sector: Issues, Options and the Way Forward". He travelled many countries in Asia, Europe and North America.
Mr. Khan was born in 1953 in Netrokona. He is a freedom fighter.
