Jalal Ahmed has served the Government of Bangladesh for over 36 years as a distinguished member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration). He graduated and completed his post-graduation from the Department of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka. As a member of the BCS 1982 batch, he has held various key positions throughout his career, demonstrating his commitment to public service and national development.
 
During his tenure in field administration and the Bangladesh Secretariat, Jalal Ahmed served in several pivotal roles, including Assistant Commissioner, Upazila Magistrate, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Banshkhali, Metropolitan Magistrate, Chattagram and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Noakhali. He also held the esteemed positions of Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate in Thakurgaon and Faridpur Districts. In the Secretariat, he was Private Secretary to the Secretary of Housing and Public Works, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Energy Division, Deputy Secretary in the Finance Division, Deputy Director Hydrocarbon Unit and Joint Secretary in the Energy Division (Project Director, Hydrocarbon Unit & Director General, Geological Survey of Bangladesh as additional charge).
 
From 2004 to 2007, before the separation of Judiciary from the Executive, he served as the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. In 2007, Jalal Ahmed was appointed Chairman of Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Minerals Corporation (Petrobangla), the largest public corporation in the country, a position he held until April 2009 when he was made Officer on Special Duty(OSD). After almost one and half year he was appointed as Vice Chairman (CEO) of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in 2010-11. Again he was made OSD for a year though in his tenure export of the country increased by 43%.
 
From 2012 to 2017 he was Additional Secretary of the Finance Division. In 2018-19 he was Executive Project Director of Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) and thereafter went on Post Retirement Leave(PRL). In 2023, he was appointed as an Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka, where he currently teaches a course on Land Administration.
 
He was Chairman of Sylhet Gas Fields Company Limited (SGFL), Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Limited (GTCL), Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL), Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Limited (MGMCL) and Director in several gas companies including Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited(BGFCL), Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Limited(RPGCL), Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration Company Limited (BAPEX) etc.

A passionate nature lover, photographer, traveler, and trekker, Jalal Ahmed reached the Everest Base Camp (EBC) at 5364 meters in the Himalayas at the age of 63 in April 2024. He served as the President of Bangladesh Bird Club for five years and is currently the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Archives & Records Management Society (BARMS). He is a Managing Committee member of the Anjuman Mufidul Islam, a hundred years old philanthropic institution, for the last six years. He is also a life member of Bangla Academy, Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Diabetic Association. Additionally, he is the Secretary of Jalalabad Education Trust and a Trustee of Jalalabad Vobon Trust.
 
Jalal Ahmed traveled extensively in and abroad. He traveled all the 64 districts of the country long back. He traveled to good number of countries to attend training courses, conferences, meetings and for bird photography & trekking.
